Southside Assembly of God Inc. is working toward development of a church on 5.14 acres at 6851 Southpoint Parkway in South Jacksonville.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing an application.

CivilCorp Engineering Inc. of Maitland is the engineering consultant.

Plans indicate a two-phase project starting with a 364-seat sanctuary and then an additional 144 seats.

Southside Assembly of God sold its San Marco area property in March for development of the San Marco Crossing apartment community.

It intends to build a 24,000-square-foot sanctuary on the land it bought Aug. 8 for $1.45 million. Pastor Milton Dykes said previously that construction will start in November and the church will remain in San Marco through June.

Harvest Baptist buys St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church

Harvest Baptist Church Inc. bought St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington for $2.5 million.

Harvest Baptist, which will become River City Baptist Church of Arlington, bought the almost 6-acre property at 6801 Merrill Road on Sept. 12.

The building was developed in 1987, property records show. Harvest Baptist has been operating at 1051 Arlington Road and is listing that property for sale.

Harvest Baptist Pastor Bryan Samms said in July that St. Matthew’s will rent space at the Merrill Road campus temporarily for worship as it makes its next move.

The new space will provide seating for up to 500.

Goodson, Nevin and Associates is the consulting engineer. The church will move from 3850 Atlantic Blvd.
