The next time you get a package from Amazon, it may have passed through North Jacksonville on its journey.
Amazon showed off its delivery station, which opened in 2017, to reporters Thursday. The station is at 11084 Cabot Commerce Circle near Alta Drive and Interstate 295.
Packages arrive at the delivery station from Amazon’s fulfillment centers, are sorted, then loaded into vans and cars for delivery around the city.
Station Manager Spencer Halliday, who came to Jacksonville from Houston, said the station has more than 250 full- and part-time workers.
He said finding good workers hasn’t been a challenge.
Halliday said the recent focus for the company is its Delivery Service Partners program.
Delivery Service Partners are regional and local companies that use the station to deliver packages for Amazon.
Brandon Law, the owner of One the Go Express, a Delivery Service Partner, attended the event.
Law, whose company is based in Atlanta, said he has 150 employees in Jacksonville.
Another group using the delivery station are independent contractors in the Amazon Flex Program.
The company says those drivers can earn up to $25 an hour delivering packages.
Amazon also has two fulfillment centers in Jacksonville, one near Jacksonville International Airport and another at Cecil Commerce Center.
While the fulfillment centers are more than 800,000 square feet, the delivery station is 60,000 square feet.
The station also is preparing for the Christmas rush. Halliday said he expects to have 350 employees working for the holidays
“We’re going to be delivering lots of smiles,” he said.
