RaceTrac Petroleum Inc. said it hopes to start construction by the middle of 2019 for completion by year-end on a 5,400-square-foot gas station and convenience store at 8715 Baymeadows Road, the site of a closed Wells Fargo bank branch.
The city is reviewing a permit application for Venture Construction Co. to build the project on 1.42 acres at a cost of $1.2 million for the building, canopy and dumpster enclosure. RaceTrac applied for a certificate of use for the site.
It’s at least the fourth new RaceTrac under construction or in planning in Jacksonville. RaceTrac operates at least 17 stores in Northeast Florida.
A spokeswoman said it was one of the new RaceTrac prototypes that features a Swirl World frozen dessert station and a large coffee area.
The stores also have more seating, free Wi-Fi and more lighting.
RaceTrac said it expects to open two Jacksonville prototype locations at 5004 Gate Parkway and 2009 Mayport Road by year-end.
