Don’t let this hot weather fool you, summer is over.

School buses are on the roads, Interstate 95 traffic is back to normal, pumpkin spice lattes are on the horizon and the Jacksonville Bar Association has begun a new year.

Under the leadership of President Katie Dearing, we have many events and informative programs planned for the year. Many are hosted by the backbone of the JBA, its sections and committees.

As the association continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our members, section and committee chairs serve an intricate role in that work and there is something for everyone looking to get involved.

There are committees focusing on almost every practice area:

• Adoption Law

• ADR Practitioners

• Appellate Law

• Commercial Litigation

• Construction Law

• Corporate, Business and In-House Counsel Law

• Criminal Law

• Dependency Law

• Elder Law

• Environmental & Real Property Law

• Estate Planning, Probate & Tax Law

• Family Law

• Franchise, Intellectual Property & Technology Law

• Health Law

• Labor & Employment Law

• Social Security Law

There also are committees that focus on other aspects of the law, including:

• Bar Bulletin

• Diversity and Inclusion

• Governmental Relations

• Hispanic & Latino Interest

• Holiday Project

• Judicial Relations

• Law Week

• Legal Technology

• Mentoring

• Pro Bono

• Professionalism

• Solo Practitioner/Small Firms

• Veterans and Military Affairs

• Young Lawyers Section

If you are interested in participating in the JBA, the committees are a great way to get started. If you have not yet renewed your membership or are interested in becoming a new member, visit jaxbar.org/general/register_member_type.asp?.

During the registration process you will be able to pick committees that you would like to join and you can join as many as you wish. Members are free to update their profile at any time, including adding committees.

While you are on the website, be sure to check out the new JBA calendar. It includes all legal events, not just JBA events, and allows you to easily RSVP for JBA events at any time. It is a great resource.

If you have any issues with the website or logging in, contact the JBA office at (904) 399-4486.

We have a great year planned and I look forward to seeing you at our luncheons and events.
