The city issued a development number for a proposed 2,960-square-foot commercial shopping center at 530 W. Union St. at southeast Union and Broad streets in LaVilla.
The project is shown as a three-unit building for tenants.
The applicant is Joe Loretta with Genesis Halff.
Loretta is a member of the Downtown Development Review Board, which issued final design approval for the redevelopment of the vacant building.
The DDRB approved conceptual designs for the $1.5 million project in December.
Loretta, co-developer and landscape architect, said the 1,656-square-foot structure on the property was built in 1963 as a fuel station and most recently was a check-cashing business.
Loretta plans to add 1,300 square feet to the building, modernize the structure with a white stucco design and repave the asphalt parking lot.
The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing an application for a 2,960-square-foot project.
