The Lovesac Co. is bringing a furniture showroom for its e-commerce business to St. Johns Town Center.
The city is reviewing a permit application for a $175,000 tenant build-out for Lovesac at 4828 River City Drive, No. 101, the former site of Swim ‘n Sport near Nordstrom. It’s a 1,575-square-foot space.
Elder-Jones Inc. of Bloomington, Minnesota, is the contractor.
Lovesac, based in Stamford, Connecticut, is publicly traded. It says it is a direct-to-consumer specialty furniture brand with 79 retail showrooms supporting its e-commerce delivery model.
Lovesac designs and sells foam-filled furniture, sectional couches and related accessories throughout the world.
It says its name comes from its original Durafoam-filled beanbags called Sacs.
The company says it derives most of its sales from its proprietary platform called Sactionals, “a washable, changeable, reconfigurable and FedEx-shippable solution for large upholstered seating.”
It says founder and CEO Shawn Nelson’s “Designed for Life” philosophy emphasizes sustainable products built to last a lifetime and designed to evolve with the customer’s needs.
Lovesac, Sac and Sactionals are registered trademarks of The Lovesac Company.
Nelson built the original 8-foot-wide foam-filled “Lovesac” in 1995 and founded the Lovesac company in 1998. It went public in 2018.
ICSC.com reported in February that the 77 showrooms Lovesac operated at the time measured about 2,300 square feet and were found in top malls, lifestyle centers and on-street locations in 30 states.
It plans to roll out about 20 showrooms a year, said the report by Shopping Centers Today.
It also reported that Lovesacs come in a range of sizes and customized fabric coverings. At Lovesac.com, prices range from $350 to $1,300 per item, while the Sactionals sell for about $2,000 to more than $8,000.
It says its current Jacksonville showroom is at Costco at 4901 Gate Parkway near Town Center.
