The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education certified 262 lawyers in 2019 who may use the term “board certified” when referring to their legal credentials, such as in advertising.
Board certification recognizes an attorney’s special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of the law and professionalism and ethics in practice. Certification must be renewed every five years.
Twenty-three lawyers who practice in the 4th Judicial Circuit and in St. Johns County earned board certification in this year's cycle:
Adoption law
Appellate practice
Business litigation
City, county and local government law
Civil trial
Condominium and planned development law
Construction law
Criminal Trial Law
Education law
Juvenile law
Labor and employment law
Marital and family law
Real Estate
Tax law
More than 5,100 of Florida’s nearly 107,000 lawyers have earned board certification. Florida offers 27 specialty areas for board certification. That's more than any other state.
