Work can begin on Summit Contracting Group Inc.’s offices at its owners’ recently purchased suburban office building.
The city approved a building permit for Summit to start interior demolition on the first floor in the north wing of the Oak Grove Plaza building at 7595 Baymeadows Road.
The $100,000 project would demolish 12,192 square feet of space in the two-story, 42,338-square-foot building,
A letter to the city refers to “what will be our new office building.”
Padgett Premiere Property I LLC bought the property in Deerwood Center from Somera Road Inc. for $2.86 million.
The owners listed the Summit Tower headquarters at 1000 Riverside Ave. for sale at $16 million.
Spokesman Aaron Trascritti, director of client relations, says the Baymeadows purchase is for growth and that there is no firm plan to sell the nine-story, 82,000-square-foot tower, where Summit is based, or to relocate the headquarters staff.
Trascritti said Summit will renovate the Deerwood building for offices, a showroom, a full kitchen and other uses.
“We plan to renovate the new campus within the next year or so,” he said. “It’s really just for our company to be able to continue growing.”
Trascritti said the demolition application was submitted to begin demolition of the first floor of the north wing.
He said a tenant operates in the remaining building space and its lease isn’t up until spring 2020. “The renovation is still a ways off,” he said.
Trascritti said that other than general expansion for growth, specific plans for Summit’s use of the building “remain up in the air.”
He said there is no update about Summit Tower at 1000 Riverside Ave.
