Blue Bamboo owner and chef Dennis Chan is considering a Mandarin restaurant, pending Jacksonville Planning Commission approvals.

The location is 10110 San Jose Blvd. The 4,300-square-foot building sits on 1.05 acres at northwest San Jose Boulevard and Haley Road. The office structure was built in 1978.

“If we are successful with our request, we will open a casual Asian eatery serving Blue Bamboo favorites focusing on Cantonese Chinese fare,” Chan said.

Chan opened Blue Bamboo, tag-lined a “Hip Asian Kitchen,” 14 years ago at 3820 Southside Blvd., carrying on a family tradition as a restaurateur.

Chan seeks a zoning exception for the retail sale and service of all alcoholic beverages in conjunction with a restaurant and a waiver to reduce the required minimum distance between a Iiquor license location and a church or school from 500 feet to 115 feet.

The planning commission will hold a public hearing at 1 p.m. June 20.

Chan said design and project costs are not known. “We won’t know whether we can proceed until our case is heard,” he said.

The Jacksonville native is active in area restaurant leadership and won the General Mills Foodservice grand prize in the 4th Annual Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest last year for his Sunshine State Orange Crunch Cake.
