Blue Bamboo owner and chef Dennis Chan is under contract to buy a 4,300-square-foot vacant office building on 1.05 acres at 10110 San Jose Blvd. for a second full-service restaurant.
As manager of Blue Bamboo Land LLC, Chan seeks a zoning exception and waiver to serve alcohol at the site.
His plans are “completely renovating it inside and out into a first-class, high-end Asian restaurant,” according to the zoning exception application to be heard by the Jacksonville Planning Commission.
The site is at northwest San Jose Boulevard and Haley Road. The office structure was built in 1978.
“If we are successful with our request, we will open a casual Asian eatery serving Blue Bamboo favorites focusing on Cantonese Chinese fare,” Chan said. He said no name has been chosen.
Chan opened Blue Bamboo, tag-lined a “Hip Asian Kitchen,” 14 years ago at 3820 Southside Blvd., carrying on a family tradition as a restaurateur.
Chan seeks a zoning exception for the retail sale and service of all alcoholic beverages in conjunction with a restaurant and a waiver to reduce the required minimum distance between a Iiquor license location and a church or school from 500 feet to 115 feet.
Chan seeks a “Special Food Service Establishment” license that requires the majority of the revenue will be derived from food sales.
The planning commission will hold a public hearing at 1 p.m. June 20.
