John Sapora joined the Local Initiatives Support Corp. in Jacksonville as disaster recovery and resiliency manager. Sapora’s role is to enhance emergency preparedness in Jacksonville by organizing local government emergency managers, businesses and nonprofit groups to create a coalition of volunteers that provide resiliency and mitigation to lessen the disruption and high costs of disasters. Sapora was a part-time intake attorney at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid.
Anne Guenther joined Riverside Cottages at the Shores in St. Johns County as executive director. She will be responsible for managing and overseeing health care operations at the assisted living facility. Guenther was vice president of operations at BayView Healthcare and administrator at St. Augustine Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mike Aspinwall, a researcher and assistant professor at the University of North Florida, was awarded a $462,500 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to study switchgrass as an alternative biofuel. Aspinwall will be the lead researcher along with scientists from other universities.
