First Coast Energy L.L.P. bought the Mackoul Distributors Inc. warehouse at 3425 N. Main St. to use for food services.
Jacksonville-based First Coast Energy paid $1.45 million for the almost 39,000-square-foot warehouse on 2.08 acres. It was built in 1974.
“We purchased the warehouse to accommodate our growing food service operations,” said First Coast Energy spokeswoman Andrea Kane.
First Coast Energy operates 37 Daily’s convenience stores in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Gainesville and Broward County. It also has 19 Daily’s Dash food-service locations in its North Florida stores.
First Coast Energy did not buy the property for a Daily’s convenience store and gas station.
Daily’s Dash is First Coast Energy’s fast-casual, cafe concept that offers made-to-order breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts and coffee drinks.
Mackoul moved its candy and snack food distribution operations to Jacksonville International Tradeport.
The city is reviewing a permit application for FCL Builders to renovate the 811,702-square-foot former Sears warehouse at 2969 Faye Road in North Jacksonville at a cost of $1.5 million for a GE Appliances distribution center.
RS&H Inc. is the project engineer.
The warehouse, previously considered to be the largest industrial building available for lease in the state, was vacant for almost a year when Pattillo Industrial Real Estate said in February that it would be leased to GE Appliances for a distribution center.
“Our business is growing, which is driving the need for enhanced warehouse space,” said Julie Wood, senior director of public relations for GE Appliances, a Haier company.
She said the company expects to move in late this summer.
Pattillo affiliate Stone Mountain Industrial Park Inc. built the property in 2008 and leased it to Sears.
Pattillo Industrial Real Estate Vice President Peter Anderson said in February that GE Appliances already leases space in Jacksonville and will consolidate those operations into the larger building along Faye Road.
He said GE Appliances leases a warehouse on Whittaker Road, shown on property records as an almost 480,000-square-foot structure in Imeson International Industrial Park.
The struggling Sears said in April 2017 that it was not renewing the lease, making the building available as of March 2018.
Based in Louisville, Kentucky, GE Appliances is a Haier company. Its brands include Hotpoint, GE, Haier, Café, GE Profile and Monogram and its products include refrigerators, freezers, cooking products, dishwashers, washers, dryers, air conditioners and water filtration systems.
Haier Group acquired GE Appliances in 2016.
