Construction of the region’s fifth Wolfson Children’s Hospital Emergency Center, which will be part of the Baptist Medical Center South campus, is expected to be complete by fall.
The 8,100-square-foot facility will have its own entrance, parking lot, check-in, triage area and 12 treatment rooms for patients under age 17.
“With our new Children’s Emergency Center, we are combining the exceptional care Baptist South already provides to local families with the implementation of specialized pediatric protocols available at Wolfson Children’s Hospital,” said Nicole Thomas, president of Baptist Medical Center South, in a news release Wednesday. “Bringing our strengths together will further enhance our services and provide an even better patient and family experience.”
Wolfson also has emergency centers at its main campus Downtown, along Town Center Parkway, in North Jacksonville and Fleming Island.
Darin Roark, vice president of ambulatory campuses and Baptist Health system emergency departments, said the emergency center “is the culmination of years of planning and listening to the voices of parents.”
“Parents told us they wanted the specialized emergency care from Wolfson Children’s to be close by,” Roark said in the release. “They asked for a dedicated space with its own parking, and most of all, a kid-friendly environment to take the fear out of going to the ER. We listened, and we are thrilled to bring all this and more to the Baptist South campus.”
The emergency center will be staffed by double-board-certified pediatric emergency physicians, emergency nurses, respiratory therapists and radiologic technologists, all connected with the larger team of pediatric specialists at the Downtown Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
