Mike Sands, chief of the development services division of the Jacksonville Planning and Development Department, announced he will retire June 7.
“After 32 years of service with the City of Jacksonville I have decided to retire,” Sands wrote in an email sent Saturday to city Chief Administrative Officer Sam Mousa and planning and development Director William Killingsworth.
“I have enjoyed serving the citizens of Jacksonville through 6 administrations,” Sands said. “Thank you for the pleasure of working with such a great organization over so many years.”
No successor has been named.
“We are currently considering candidates,” said Nikki Kimbleton, city director of public affairs.
Sands is the second long-term planning department division chief to announce a retirement.
Jacksonville Building Inspection Division Chief Tom Goldsbury announced that he will retire from the city July 19. Mousa hired him 27 years ago.
Legislation was introduced to City Council to confirm Mayor Lenny Curry's appointment of Building Inspections Manager Joshua Gideon as the next chief of the division, effective July 20.
Goldsbury intends to return part-time in August to work on special projects, specifically the development of the city's new permitting system.
Mousa also is retiring. His last day at City Hall is June 28. He is succeeded by Brian Hughes, the mayor’s chief of staff.
