• Jacksonville University named speech-language pathology scholar and inventor Christine Sapienza as senior vice president of academic affairs and provost, becoming JU’s chief academic officer. She joined JU as associate dean in 2013 and has served as interim provost since May 2018. The search committee recommended Sapienza as the top candidate among three national finalists.
• Former Mayor John Delaney and urban planner Ennis Davis joined the board of Groundwork Jacksonville. Davis is senior planner with Alfred Benesch & Company. Delaney is a shareholder in the Rogers Towers law firm and specializes in government relations, land use, higher education and general civil litigation. He served as mayor from 1995-2003, then led the University of North Florida as president until retiring in May 2018.
• Brian Wolfburg, president and CEO of VyStar Credit Union, and David Miller, co-founder and executive chairman of Brightway Insurance, joined as Groundwork Jacksonville’s Emerald Trail Champions, serving as ambassadors for the Emerald Trail in the community. The Emerald Trail is almost 20 miles of trails, greenways and parks that encircle the urban core and link at least 14 historic neighborhoods to Downtown, Hogans Creek, McCoys Creek, the S-Line Rail Trail and the Northbank and Southbank Riverwalk.
• Leadership Jacksonville presented Quint White its 2019 Tillie K. Fowler Distinguished Leadership Award. White is professor of biology and marine science and is executive director of the Marine Science Research Institute at Jacksonville University. Leadership Jacksonville also recognized three honorary members: Hank Coxe, director of the Bedell Firm; District 13 Florida Rep. Tracie Davis, D-Jacksonville; and Emily Lisska, retired executive director of the Jacksonville Historical Society.
• Corey Jones joined The Heritage Bank as a vice president and commercial lender.
• Cmdr. Jason Henry assumed the position of director for clinical support services at Naval Hospital Jacksonville. Henry, a radiologist, was associate director for clinical support services.
