Apple Spice, the box lunch and meal catering chain, opened Tuesday in Jacksonville.
Its storefront is at 3061 Philips Highway, No. 102, a 2,308-square-foot space. Because it was mostly a warehouse before, owner Jim O’Leary said a $157,680 build-out added kitchen, office and pickup space.
Orders can be placed online or by phone for delivery or pickup. Apple Spice has no dining space.
Apple Spice is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday with catering available on weekends.
O’Leary said he is planning a grand opening in the coming months.
He said he has been meeting with companies in the Philips Highway and Southbank areas, and so far the concept has been well received.
For sandwich and wrap box lunches, Apple Spice offers three sizes, ranging from $10.99 to $13.99. Each includes at least a sandwich/wrap, dill pickle, cookie and mint. The deluxe box adds potato chips, and the executive box includes carrot chips and cheesecake for $13.99.
Its 16 sandwiches include a strawberry grilled chicken, ham and havarti, cashew chicken, egg salad and albacore tuna. It offers four wraps: turkey bacon ranch, Southwest chicken, chicken caesar, and apple harvest turkey.
Signature salads are $10.99 and are served with bread. Choices include apple walnut, pear and goat cheese, classic Cobb, Southwest chicken, chicken Caesar and turkey, pear and berry.
Apple Spice also caters to larger parties with buffet-style hot meals. The catering side provides breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Continental breakfast and build-your-own breakfast burritos are among breakfast choices, and lunch and dinner includes roasted chicken, baked ziti, country-style barbecue or a taco bar.
O’Leary moved to Jacksonville in May from Wisconsin with his wife, Susan O’Leary, co-owner of the business.
His son-in-law, Jon Frederick, also is a partner.
O’Leary said he was looking for a fun franchise to open, and settled on Apple Spice. He said he didn’t know the total investment in the project.
The Salt Lake City-based company operates locations in six Florida cities, including Jacksonville, and around 50 nationwide.
