Jacksonville-based Joyce Development Group LLC plans to break ground at 11 a.m. Wednesday for Baymeadows Park at 7981 Baymeadows Road, east of Interstate 95.
The mixed-use project will be built at what was the 12th hole of the former Baymeadows Golf Club between Baymeadows Circles east and west in South Jacksonville.
City Council member Danny Becton announced the project in May 2018 with Mayor Lenny Curry and project developer John Joyce, principal of Joyce Development Group.
Council approved the project in August 2018.
Becton issued a news release Monday that said the more than $30 million commercial development comprises a 120-room hotel along with about 22,000 square feet of commercial, retail and restaurant use among four buildings.
Baymeadows Park is described as a scaled-down version of Joyce Development Group’s Tapestry Park mixed-use village development along Southside Boulevard near Tinseltown.
Baymeadows Park will use similar architecture, outdoor seating and landscaping.
Becton’s news release calls the project the centerpiece of a major initiative to revitalize the Baymeadows area.
He said the project emphasizes the continued need “for neighboring communities and business owners to join in on the efforts that have been planned for many years.”
Baymeadows Park LLC bought the 5.8-acre property from D.R. Horton for $2.4 million.
D.R. Horton plans to develop single-family and townhomes at the former Baymeadows Golf Club.
Becton’s release said updated illustrations will be displayed Wednesday.
Joyce hasn’t announced tenants, but it has filed site plans with the city for Starbucks Coffee Co. on an outparcel at Baymeadows Park.
Plans show the 2,500-square-foot Starbucks with a drive-thru at northwest Baymeadows Road and Baymeadows Circle East.
