A RaceTrac Petroleum Inc. spokeswoman said its new gas station and convenience store at 5225 University Blvd. W. will open in mid-2020, when it will close a smaller store at 5109 University Blvd. W.
Spokeswoman Megan Shannon also said the Atlanta-based company’s new location at Baymeadows Road and Baymeadows Way will open Wednesday.
On University Boulevard, RaceTrac will build on a 1.79-acre site it bought from Home Depot U.S.A. Inc. in June for almost $2.35 million.
The city approved site-clearing in August and issued permits Nov. 12 for construction of the 5,500-square-foot store, canopy and dumpster enclosure at a cost reaching almost $1.33 million.
At least three more RaceTrac sites are in play in Jacksonville.
• Shannon said construction will start in the first quarter on the Atlantic North location at northeast Atlantic and Kernan boulevards.
• Shannon had no timeline for construction of the RaceTrac planned in Arlington at Merrill Road in the Buck Business Park.
• RaceTrac also is interested in a West Jacksonville site. The Connelly & Wicker Inc. civil engineering firm asked JEA about the availability of service for RaceTrac along Commonwealth Avenue on land owned by N.G. Wade Investment Co. Shannon had no information to share about that site.
Shannon said RaceTrac has 21 locations open in Northeast Florida.
