Publix Super Markets Inc. continues to renovate its area grocery stores.
The company seeks a permit to remodel parts of its almost 54,000-square-foot store at 2875 University Blvd. W. at a cost of $650,000.
McIntyre Elwell & Strammer General Contractors Inc. of Sarasota is listed as the contractor.
Publix operates 56 stores throughout Northeast Florida and has been upgrading and rebuilding them.
The Lakeland-based chain typically spends $500,000 to more than $750,000 each to remodel stores.
It also is adding stores.
Plans show Publix will open a new store in East San Marco and is considering locations in Wildlight in Nassau County and in Beachwalk in St. Johns County.
Publix also intends to open two GreenWise Markets in St. Johns County. GreenWise is Publix’s natural and organic foods brand.
