The Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida is assisting the recently unemployed with signing up for coverage through the government’s health insurance marketplace.
“We are facing the most severe health crisis of our lifetime with the COVID-19 pandemic,” a release said. “Considering the expected surge in unemployment numbers in Florida, combined with the potential hazard of in-person meetings the Health Planning Council’s Navigators are prepared to assist … virtually.”
Affordable Care Act rules provide a 60-day special enrollment period to sign up for health care coverage in your county.
The Health Planning Council will help people review health insurance basics, assist with the application and explain how federal subsidies for premiums work. Help from one of the council’s navigators is free, and can be done over the phone or virtually.
The council can assist with Florida KidCare enrollment, which covers children from birth to 18 years old.
