Cornerstone Classical Academy buys New Covenant Ministries property

The Jacksonville charter school intends to reach 12 grades by 2026-27.

Cornerstone Classical Academy Inc., a Jacksonville-based charter school, paid $7.5 million March 31 for the New Covenant Ministries Inc. property at 2360 St. Johns Bluff Road S., between Atlantic and Beach boulevards.

Cornerstone Classical, founded in 2018, is a traditional K-6 public charter school aligned with Hillsdale College’s liberal arts curriculum. The school will serve grades K-6 through the 2020-21 school year and plans to add a grade each year reaching 12th grade in the 2026-27 school year.

Property records show 22 buildings on 16.58 acres comprising church, office, mobile home and relocatable classrooms totaling 79,576 square feet.

The city issued a building permit March 31 valued at $150,000 for alterations and repairs of 35,000 square feet for Cornerstone Classical. Williams & Rowe Co. Inc. is the contractor.
School representatives were unavailable for comment April 9.

The school secured a mortgage for $16.96 million from UMB Bank.

New Covenant Ministries Inc. bought the King of Kings Christian Church Inc. property at 3949 Atlantic Blvd. on March 31 for $1.2 million.
