City Council unanimously approved a project to improve traffic flow and access to the future Fidelity National Information Services Inc. world headquarters in Brooklyn.
Council voted 19-0 at its virtual meeting April 14.
The estimated $3.29 million project will realign Forest Street with Alfred DuPont Place and improve pedestrian access to the proposed $145 million headquarters on Riverside Avenue and Sidney J. Gefen Riverwalk Park.
The work also will improve stormwater drainage in the area.
FIS will act as developer for the city Department of Public Works project. The global technology firm will be responsible for completing the project’s design already underway by the city, as well as completing the engineering, permitting and construction.
The original version of Ordinance 2020-0150 estimated the project would cost about $2 million, but the bill was amended April 14 to increase the city’s allocation to the project.
The Council Auditor’s Office told Council members that revised construction and materials cost estimates from Public Works accounted for the increase. The bill also was amended to fund the project through city debt rather than the general fund.
Downtown Investment Authority CEO Lori Boyer said April 8 that FIS intends to break ground on the headquarters in May.
Lane Gardner, senior managing director of project management firm Hines, said April 6 that development of the 12-story, 358,092-square-foot FIS office tower and adjacent eight-story parking garage is on schedule.
He expects the project to be completed in June 2022.
The DIA board will vote April 15 on a resolution to allocate 377,000 square feet of office and 6,000 square feet of commercial retail development rights for the project. The 5.71-acre site is at 323 Riverside Ave. in Brooklyn.
