Starting May 4, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority will move most of its fixed-route bus operations from the Rosa Parks Transit Station along Union Street to the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center in LaVilla.
The regional transportation center at 100 LaVilla Center Drive, near the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center, will serve as JTA’s new Downtown bus transfer facility, administrative headquarters and intermodal hub with connections to the Skyway and Intercity Bus Terminal.
The new LaVilla location has 21 bus bays, seven bus staging bays, “kiss-n-ride” areas, a paratransit drop-off area, spaces for ride-sharing services and for future bike and scooter share services. Construction of the 67,000-square-foot facility began in summer 2017.
It replaces the functions at the Rosa Parks Transit Station at 201 W. Union St. as JTA’s main downtown bus transfer facility. It will serve most regular JTA and express bus routes, the Skyway and the First Coast Flyer Bus Rapid Transit Network.
The regional transportation center in LaVilla will serve:
JTA bus routes: 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 27, 32, 33 and 53
First Coast Flyer Green Line (102), Blue Line (107) and Red Line (109)
JTA Express Routes: Mandarin (200), Clay Regional (201) and Beaches (205)
The Rosa Parks Transit Station will continue serving Routes 10, 19, 86 and the First Coast Flyer Red Line (109), and the Skyway. The east half of the Rosa Parks Transit Station will be closed and prepared for future transit projects.
JTA Communications Director David Cawton said the Red Line (109) will make stops at both facilities.
JTA bus routes will continue operating on a “Modified Weekly Schedule” to promote social distancing. The regional transportation center will also have social distancing measures in place, as well as 24-hour security.
JTA’s administrative offices at the new center will remain closed to visitors and nonessential JTA personnel.
