Boca Raton-based SBA Communications Corp. paid $24.9 million July 31 for the Jacksonville Network Access Point data center property in Downtown Jacksonville.

The 0.73-acre property at 421 W. Church St. is a 277,334-square-foot building comprising the JaxNAP data center and The Metropolitan Loft  Apartments.

SBA made the purchase through SBA Edge (Jax) LLC. The seller was Jacksonville-based Metro Lofts Ltd., led by LW Jax Inc. and Liliane Welty.

SBA is an independent owner and operator of wireless communications infrastructure including towers, buildings, distributed antenna systems and small cells.

JaxNAP data center is a 14-megawatt connection junction and data storage facility providing regional colocation and interconnection services, including an internet exchange connecting to three subsea cable telecommunications routes and interconnections with 20 fiber providers.

SBA Communications CEO Jeffrey Stoops said during SBA’s quarterly earnings call Aug. 4 that JaxNAP “will allow us to develop deeper data center capabilities and further enhance our tower edge data center value proposition through increased interconnection and operational knowledge.”

The Metropolitan Loft Apartments comprise studio, one- and two-bedroom units and penthouse suites ranging from 885 square feet for a studio to 1,519 square feet for a two-bedroom unit.

Property amenities include concierge service, fitness center, patio lounge, garage parking and controlled building entry and elevator floor access.

Metro Lofts bought the property in 2011 for $13.75 million.

SBA did not respond to a request for comment.
