• Architect Bill Bishop joined the Jacksonville Historical Society board of directors.

Bishop has served as vice president and chief operating officer for Akel Logan Shafer for the past 28 years and has been a practicing architect since 1983.

His projects include the rehabilitation of the historic Main Post Office building in downtown Fernandina and renovation of the Florida State College at Jacksonville Downtown Campus Main Street Building.

He served on the Jacksonville City Council from 2007-15.

• The University of North Florida named Kara Barber as assistant director of UNF’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Before joining UNF, she served in the development office for the North Florida American Diabetes Association.

Barber also managed the Orientation and Student Solutions Center at Jacksonville University, where she increased student success and the rate toward graduation, specifically with second-year students.

Barber is a graduate of UNF’s educational leadership master’s program and received her bachelor’s in communication from Florida State University.
