The Omni Jacksonville is one of five properties being reviewed for possible sale by Omni Hotels & Resorts.

“Pursuing the potential sale of assets that no longer align with the direction of our brand was a part of our strategy pre-COVID,” Peter Strebel, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts, said in a news release.

The Omni Jacksonville at 245 Water St. opened in October 1987. It has 354 rooms and suites. The hotel closed for about two months when the pandemic struck in March.

“The hospitality industry was impacted immensely by the pandemic and as we emerge from this crisis, we must be forward thinking about our brand strategies and portfolio offerings,” Strebel said.

“Reinvesting capital into the convention center and resort market space allows us to grow our business and play to our strengths,” he said.

The four other hotels being reviewed for possible sale are in Texas. They are the Omni Dallas Hotel at Park West, Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark, Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade and Omni Houston Hotel at Westside.

Omni Hotels & Resorts says it owns and operates 60 luxury hotels and resorts in North America and is the official hotel of the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions.

The chain has been opening new hotels in the past decade. It opened in Dallas in 2011, Nashville in 2013, Louisville in 2018 and plans openings in Oklahoma City and Boston in 2021.

Omni also has partnered with three professional sports teams to develop mixed-use properties with a “live, work, play” model.

The partnerships comprise Omni Frisco Hotel with the Dallas Cowboys, Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta with the Braves and Omni Viking Lakes Hotel with MV Ventures, the development arm of the Minnesota Vikings, according to the release.
