For the second time in less than three months, the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront filed a notice with state officials about layoffs because of a COVID-19 pandemic-related loss of business.
A letter sent last week under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act said 24 jobs were impacted, beginning Aug. 27.
The previous WARN notification in June said the Downtown hotel at 225 E. Coastline Drive was permanently cutting 120 jobs and temporarily laying off 80 workers.
The latest layoff includes two permanent job cuts.
It also said 21 workers who were furloughed with employment benefits have now been converted to temporary layoffs without benefits.
One other employee’s furlough was extended with benefits.
The letter from General Manager Joe Hindsley said the continued impact of the pandemic on global travel and group meetings is causing a drop in business.
“With likely on-going social distancing until a reliable COVID-19 vaccine or treatment becomes available, we cannot predict when our way of doing business will return to ‘normal,’” the letter said.
