Charleys Wings and Philly Steaks plans to open a stand-alone location at 9840 San Jose Blvd. in a former Krystal as part of a nationwide expansion.
The city is reviewing plans for tenant alterations for the 1,908-square-foot building.
David Hiatt Architect of Sarasota is the architect. No contractor is listed.
Plans identify the owner of the San Jose site as GOSH Enterprises in Columbus, Ohio. The venture is the holding company of Charleys Philly Steaks, BIBIBOP Asian Grill restaurants and Lennys Grill.
Charleys Philly Steaks operates in the food court at The Avenues mall.
Charley Shin created the chain in 1986 across from The Ohio State University campus. It grew to more than 600 locations in 45 states and 20 countries.
QSRMagazine.com reported Nov. 3 that GOSH Enterprises Inc. plans to develop more than 100 restaurants in 2021.
Of those, Charleys Philly Steaks will more than double its enhanced, out-of-mall, cheesesteaks and wings concept by opening more than 50 locations in 2021, said the trade magazine site.
It also is starting a pilot program with Walmart to open 10 locations in the chain in early 2021 with the potential for expansion.
“We’ve been working for the past three years to refine the Charleys’ brand and financial model outside of the traditional mall food court with the goal of over $900,000 average unit volumes in efficiently sized 2,000-square-foot locations,” says Boyd Hoback, president of Shared Services.
“The brand has evolved with a separate chicken category featuring classic and boneless wings, while retaining the legacy menu of Charleys that has proven to be so popular.”
Bruce Kim, Charleys vice president of development, said the chain seeks individual and multiunit franchisees for the development of Charleys to reach “1,000 stores over the next few years.”
