An 11th Northeast Florida Amazon.com Inc. facility is planned, this one a delivery station in Northwest Jacksonville.
The city is reviewing plans for a $16 million, 155,819-square-foot delivery station, code-named DJX5, in the Perimeter West Industrial Park.
The new speculative building is at 4345 Perimeter Industrial Parkway N.
The DJX designation is Amazon’s code for a Jacksonville delivery station.
Plans say the station is designed for a package delivery service with two shifts – one day, one evening – and a potential third shift during peak seasons.
No contractor is listed. Baker Barrios of Orlando is the architect. TLC Engineering Solutions of Orlando is the civil engineer.
The plans specify how the station will operate.
Packages arrive in cardboard boxes labeled for shipping within local neighborhoods and areas surrounding the facility.
They are brought into the facility by tractor-trailers and unloaded. The packages are sorted into more specific locations, put into mobile carts and rolled to the loading area.
There, they are loaded into vans for delivery.
Atlanta-based Rooker completed the speculative building early this year. Rooker Vice President Cason Bufe said Aug. 10 he had no tenants to announce but had “good leasing activity on it.”
Rooker also began design and permitting on a 168,000-square-foot speculative building.
Since late 2017, Amazon has opened, announced or is identified on plans for:
• Three large – about 1 million-square-foot – fulfillment centers in North, Northwest and West Jacksonville.
• A sortation center in West Jacksonville and another center of similar size, also in West Jacksonville. Those are 240,000 to 280,000 square feet.
• A center to handle heavy bulk freight, also in West Jacksonville.
• Five delivery stations, comprising two in North Jacksonville, one in West Jacksonville, the new Northwest Jacksonville locations, and one in St. Johns County. They range in size.
