Books-A-Million closed Feb. 16 in the Regency Park Shopping Center, according to a sign posted on the door.

The store is at 9400 Atlantic Blvd.

Two Books-A-Million stores remain open in Northeast Florida – one in the Orange Park Mall at 1910 Wells Road and in South Beach Parkway Plaza at 738 Marsh Landing Parkway.

The Birmingham, Alabama-based chain has been closing stores, according to news reports. In July it closed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and in January it closed stores in Owensboro, Kentucky and Monroe, Michigan.

Along with Books-A-Million, there are nine vacancies in the Regency Park Shopping Center. TGI Friday was the last to close in the shopping center in March. Its space is vacant.

Brixmor Property Group Inc., the owner of the shopping center, listed the 24,000-square-foot Books-A-Million space for lease on its website.

It’s adjacent to the nearly 50,000-square-foot former Hobby Lobby space, which Celebration Church is building-out.

A Brixmor representative was not available to comment.

Privately held Books-A-Million says it is the second-largest bookseller in the U.S. and operates more than 200 stores in 32 states. It also owns 2nd & Charles, which has a location in The Strand at Town Center.

On Feb. 13, the Books-A-Million was still open.
