The owner of the Bentley/Maserati Alfa Romeo dealership under construction at 7137 Bonneval Road is requesting that part of Bonneval Road be renamed “Bentley Road.”
Miami-based Brickell Motors LLC applied to the city for the change to coincide with the opening of its Jacksonville dealership.
Bonneval Road is divided north and south by Butler Boulevard. The request is to change the name of the road south of Butler Boulevard.
A report from the city Planning and Development Department to the Historic Preservation Commission said the reason for the change is to “provide recognition to the brand and help locate the new dealership.”
City code requires that street name changes be reviewed by the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission to evaluate the historic nature of the current name. In addition, at least 75% of property owners on the street must support the name change.
The Planning and Development staff recommends approval. The commission will review the report and make a recommendation at its 3 p.m. Feb. 26 hearing. City Council has authority for final approval for the name change.
Brickell Motors and Miami Automotive Retail bought the 9-acre property Feb. 28 for $2.65 million through MNAR-Real Estate Holdings LLC.
Foundation construction began in June and a building permit was issued in September for the 40,987-square-foot dealership. Bentley will operate on one side of the dealership and Maserati and Alfa Romeo on the other.
