Maximus said Jan. 16 it will hire more than 950 seasonal employees in Jacksonville to support the 2020 census.
The company, based in Reston, Virginia, said it would hire the workers over the next several months. for its contact center work
Maximus is a global government contractor.
In Jacksonville, Maximus is offering an hourly wage of $15.08. It is looking for bilingual candidates who are proficient in English and Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog or Vietnamese.
The company said it seeks customer service representatives who will answer phone calls from around the country as part of U.S. Census Bureau work.
“Our recruitment efforts in Jacksonville are vital to the success of this project,” said Tom Romeo, Maximus Federal president and general manager.
Maximus said the U.S. government conducts a full census of every person in the country every decade.
Maximus said the results control the number of representatives in the U.S. Congress apportioned to each state and helps to determine federal spending assigned to state and city governments.
Across the country, Maximus will hire more than 8,000 limited-service contact center employees.
Seasonal employees will have a variety of shifts available and will be trained in customer service. They could receive bonuses for referrals.
In May 2018, Maximus began setting up a call center at One Imeson in North Jacksonville.
