Amazon.com wants to open another delivery station in Jacksonville, this one for heavy bulk freight.
It would be the sixth Amazon facility in Jacksonville.
The city is reviewing a permit for “AMXL HJX1” at 2780 Lloyd Road in West Jacksonville.
AMXL is a term used by the Seattle-based online retailer for its delivery stations that deliver heavy bulk freight goods, described as 60 to 300 pounds.
Rick Wilson & Associates Inc. of Altamonte Springs is the contractor for the $1.4 million renovation of 11,520 square feet of space.
Plans show the project “consists of an online retailer moving into an existing space with no change of use or occupancy.”
“Operations consist of workers off-loading from larger trucks and loading onto smaller box trucks,” plans say.
HJX1 appears to be a location identifier.
Records show the city has issued four permits since Dec. 3 for Amazon at the building for electrical, plumbing and mechanical work totaling $120,500.
The Lloyd Road truck terminal has 33 dock-high loading positions. The site fronts Interstate 295. Property records show Ringsby Terminals Inc. of Denver owns the property.
Amazon operates four centers in Jacksonville and submitted plans Dec. 11 for a fifth. That center would be an e-commerce delivery center in the former Kmart at 4645 Blanding Blvd. in Westside.
The 107,000-square-foot discount department store closed seven years ago. Plans show 111,718 square feet total of nonresidential floor area for the Amazon project.
Amazon’s four major Jacksonville centers are:
• A 1.1 million-square-foot e-commerce fulfillment center at 13333 103rd St. in AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center in West Jacksonville. It was the first to open when it started operations Oct. 1, 2017.
• A 2.4 million-square-foot multilevel e-commerce center at 12900 Pecan Park Road in Northwest Jacksonville. Its base footprint is 855,000 square feet.
• A 240,000-square-foot sortation center at 4948 Bulls Bay Highway in Westside Industrial Park that serves as a “mid-mile” delivery center in which Amazon sorts customer orders by ZIP codes before handing off to delivery partners for final delivery.
• A 63,000-square-foot delivery station at 11084 Cabot Commerce Circle in Alta Lakes Commerce Center in North Jacksonville. That’s where Amazon manages its own last-mile delivery to local customers.
The online retailer employs thousands of workers in Jacksonville.
