Retailers and restaurants left the landscape – some before COVID-19 – as the market changed and some filed bankruptcy. Others took the opposite approach and opened.

Among those that closed in Jacksonville this year:

  • Brio Tuscan Grille – Closed in The Markets at Town Center on Jan. 25.
  • Sears – Closed its Orange Park Mall location, the final store in Northeast Florida, in February.
  • Earth Fare – Closed all locations Feb. 25.
  • Lucky’s Market – Closed all Florida stores Feb. 12.
  • Pier 1 Imports – Liquidation sales are underway at its three remaining Jacksonville stores.
  • J.C. Penney – Will close its store at Regency Square Mall.

Several companies opened stores:

  • Duck Donuts – Opened March 7 in the Shoppes at Bartram Park.
  • Sprouts Farmers Market – Opened April 29 in Tamaya Market.
  • GreenWise Market – Opened June 20 in Nocatee.
  • Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar – Under construction in St. Johns Town Center.
  • Lucky Goat Coffee Co. – July opening planned in the Kernan Square shopping center.
