In an executive order executed July 29, Gov. Ron DeSantis again extended the statewide moratorium on mortgage foreclosures and evictions until 12:01 a.m. Sept. 1.
The moratorium, now extended for the fourth time, would have expired Aug. 1.
Part of Florida’s declared state of emergency, it was first enacted April 2 to protect homeowners and residents who have lost income because of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
The order specifies that it is intended solely to provide relief for people experiencing loss of employment, diminished wages or business income, or other monetary loss realized during the state of emergency directly impacting the ability to pay for housing.
It also states: “Nothing in this Executive Order shall be construed as relieving an individual from his or her obligation to make mortgage payments or rent payments. All payments, including tolled payments, are due when an individual is no longer adversely affected by the COVID-19 emergency.”
