Former two-term City Council member and past President Greg Anderson joined JAXUSA Partnership as vice president of business development.

Anderson served as an at-large Council member from 2011-19 and as president for the 2015-16 year.

He said he left TIAA Bank in January and joined JAXUSA, the economic development division of JAX Chamber, in March.

Anderson works with Aaron Bowman, JAXUSA senior vice president of business development.

Bowman is serving his second Council term representing District 3. He was elected in 2015 and was Council president 2018-19.

JAXUSA announced Anderson’s appointment March 24.

JAXUSA said Anderson manages financial and professional services projects and clients interested in relocation and expansion business in the seven-county region.

It said that Anderson is a 35-year veteran of the financial services industry, making him “a natural fit.” Financial services is a JAXUSA targeted industry.

JAXUSA said during Anderson’s Council terms, he “partnered with JAXUSA often to help pass legislation that would announce eight projects encompassing 2,100 jobs during his presidency as well as countless others while in office.”

“With Greg’s experience in both the industry and government leadership, we are fortunate to welcome him to the team as we advance our business development efforts in financial and professional services,” said JAXUSA President Aundra Wallace in the release.

Anderson joins the business development staff six months after 17-year JAX Chamber veteran Cathy Chambers, JAXUSA senior vice president of strategy and business development, left in September to take a position with Florida Power & Light Co.

Anderson has a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business and a master of arts in liberal studies, with a focus on leadership studies, from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

Most recently, Anderson was the community development director for TIAA Bank, managing the company’s efforts in business development, nonprofits and government relations, according to the release.

The New York-based TIAA company moved the headquarters of TIAA Bank to Jacksonville after it acquired EverBank in June 2017, and the bank employed 1,117 people in Jacksonville at the end of 2018.

Anderson’s LinkedIn page shows he was an EverBank market leader from August 2006 through January 2020, and also was community development director from 2014 through March.

TIAA said in May it is offering voluntary separation packages to 75% of its U.S. employees.

However, the financial services company is not saying how many jobs it expects to cut. It also is not giving details on how many jobs may be lost in specific offices or business units.
