The Jacksonville Housing Authority approved plans to renovate the Centennial Towers senior living community in Springfield.
Centennial Towers at 230 E. First St. is a 14-story high-rise building constructed in 1977. It comprises 208 one-bedroom senior apartments.
JHA and Jacksonville-based The Vestcor Cos. Inc. will partner to renovate the tower at an estimated cost of $14.5 million.
Vestcor specializes in multifamily development with experience and expertise in affordable housing and senior living communities.
Raymond James and Bank of America secured funding for the project.
Dwayne Alexander, JHA’s interim president and CEO, said renovations will “provide comfortable, updated living spaces for the senior citizens who reside there. This investment will renovate important amenities and provide many more years of decent, safe housing for Jacksonville’s senior citizens.”
