Stellar Group Inc. announced Feb. 28 that it expects to complete construction of the redeveloped Arlington Toyota dealership by August 2021.

Jacksonville-based Stellar, a construction management company, said in a news release it will renovate and expand the dealership at 10939 Atlantic Blvd. to accommodate continued business growth.

The city issued five permits Jan. 29 for Stellar Group Inc. to build a new dealership showroom and renovate existing structures at a construction cost totaling almost $11.9 million.

Stellar said its part of the project is $10.8 million. A spokesman said no rendering is available.

Crews broke ground Feb. 3 on the project at northeast Atlantic Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff Road, near  Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport.

The company partnered with R. Wulbern Architect for the design.

The project comprises a new 59,187-square-foot showroom/shop building, a renovated showroom/shop and collision center, and an expanded parking lot. Stellar will add 10,893 square feet of space to the existing buildings.

Stellar said it demolished a 52,000-square-foot retail center to construct the new parking lot, which will add 250 more parking spaces.

“The dealership and sales lot will remain open throughout construction, so we will be working closely with the Arlington Toyota staff to eliminate significant impacts to their ongoing operations,” said Stellar project manager Scott Wright in a news release.

Stellar said its team will coordinate with Arlington Toyota’s vendors, such as the automobile mechanic equipment provider, sign company, cabinetry contractor, lighting supplier and others, to complete the project on schedule.

Arlington Toyota is a family-owned and -operated dealership since 1978.

“We have been very strategic in who we’re partnering with on this project, and we’re looking forward to giving our dedicated employees a great place to come to work and serve the community that has been so loyal to us for more than four decades,” said fourth-generation automobile dealer Brooks McCormick, owner of Arlington Toyota. “

Permits show Arlington Toyota will build a two-story dealership comprising 50,170 square feet of enclosed space and 9,017 square feet of unenclosed space; renovate its existing 36,381-square-foot dealership; renovate the collision center; and make other improvements.

The dealership was built in 1999. The shopping center and office-flex space, purchased by Arlington Realty LLC, was built in 1984.

The city and the St. Johns River Water Management District reviewed plans and permit applications for the 12.41-acre site.

The district issued a permit in April. Matthews Design Group told the district in a Feb. 19 letter that the office-warehouse buildings will be removed, and a new dealership and showroom will be constructed with associated parking and stormwater conveyance revisions.
