After more than 18 years on the bench, Circuit Judge Linda McCallum is retiring, creating a vacancy on the court.

The 4th Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission is seeking applicants to succeed McCallum.

The application may be downloaded from The Florida Bar's website at floridabar.org or at flgov.com.

Unredacted and redacted applications must be received before 5 p.m. March 18 by JNC Chair Jacob Brown, 50 N. Laura Street, Suite 3100, Jacksonville, 32202.

PDF versions of both forms of completed application, including a digital photograph, sent via e-mail to [email protected] also are acceptable and would be appreciated but are not required, Brown said.

Applicants will be interviewed March 30 at the Duval County Courthouse.

Incomplete applications nor applications submitted after the deadline will be considered. Applicants must meet the qualifications for judges outlined in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution. Personal information not subject to public disclosure should be redacted on a separate copy of the application as permitted by Section 119.071 of the Florida Statutes.

To assist the commission, all questions on the application must be completely answered. Current contact information, including email addresses for judges, co-counsel, opposing counsel and references must be provided to facilitate the background investigation that will be conducted by the commission.

All commission proceedings are open to the public except deliberations.

Applicants should not expect that their submission will be kept confidential. If an applicant is nominated, all materials attached to the original application will be submitted to Gov. Ron DeSantis’s office.

Applicants shall not contact the commissioners until the nominees are submitted to DeSantis unless questions pertain only to the application process.

Contact Brown at (904) 598-8630 with questions.
