Tanner, Gillam win Florida Bar elections

Arena and Morris will be in a runoff.

The Florida Bar released the results of its 2020 board of governors election at 3:50 p.m. March 24.

Jacksonville attorney Michael Tanner, a partner with Gunster, is president-elect designate.

Tanner won over fellow board of governors member Renee Thompson, with 8,647 votes to Thompson's 8,558.

For the 4th Judicial Circuit's open seat on the board, W. Braxton Gillam IV, a partner at Milam Howard Nicandri Gillam and Renner, defeated John Phillips, 1,044 votes to 416.

The 4th Circuit's open seat on the Young Lawyers Division board of governors will be decided in a runoff election.

Valeen Arena, a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Brian Davis, received 143 votes; Sarah Morris, an attorney with the state Office of Criminal Conflict & Civil Regional Counsel, received 118 votes.
