The Bread & Board announced Oct. 30 it expects to open its Downtown VyStar Credit Union campus location during the winter, possibly late January.

Owner Riverchefs LLC, led by Jonathan Cobbs and Dwayne Beliakoff, submitted a permit application to the city for a $1.33 million build-out of the space at 100 W. Bay St.

FLC Contracting LLC is the contractor. Codes-ABC Inc. is handling code compliance. Thomas Duke Architect and Micamy Design Studio are the designers.

Jacksonville-based The Bread & Board said the restaurant is best known for its contemporary casual menu of baked in-house artisan breads and meats served as sandwiches, sandwich boards and bowls.

It said it submitted the construction permit Oct. 27 “and is preparing to enter the final construction phase.”

Beliakoff said in a news release the new concept “will be a strong component in the revitalization of Jacksonville’s urban core.”

“As people begin to move back into office buildings and venture out more, we will be able to offer them a unique culinary and shopping experience with locally- and regionally-sourced foods and goods in one convenient and safe spot,” Cobbs said in the release.

The Bread & Board plans a 7,200-square-foot ground-level space. About 5,000 square feet will be used for the restaurant and 2,200 square feet will be for the Bread & Board Provisions marketplace.

A breezeway will bring outdoor seating and an open-air communal space large enough to provide room to maintain social distancing, the release said.

The Bread & Board’s first location opened at 1030 Oak St. in Five Points and the second is at 4413 Town Center Parkway in the St. Johns Town Center area.

The release said both locations offer in-house dining, pickup, curbside and delivery services.

The Downtown Investment Authority Board awarded Riverchefs LLC and VyStar Credit Union $371,590 in forgivable loans to help with build-out costs for the Downtown restaurant and adjoining marketplace.

The board voted 8-0 during its July 15 meeting to offer the developer and landlord VyStar incentive money from the DIA’s Food and Beverage Retail Enhancement Program. Development costs for the project are estimated at $1.521 million.

In a breakdown of how the loan will subsidize the build-out, $279,370 will be used for the restaurant area and $49,240 will be used for the marketplace.

Because the building is a contributing structure to Jacksonville’s Downtown Historic Register District, the project was eligible for an additional $42,980.
