Call it “doughnut central.”
The city is reviewing a permit application for renovations at Central Park East at 4073 Philips Highway for a Dunkin’ central kitchen, bakery and commissary.
That’s where doughnuts will be made for area distribution.
A Dunkin’ Brands spokesperson said Oct. 28 a local Dunkin’ franchisee is exploring plans to open a central kitchen in the Jacksonville area.
The location would add to the current 66 Dunkin’ locations in the greater Jacksonville market.
The spokesperson, who asked not to be identified, said the project can be described as the central bakery or central manufacturing center.
“At this time, we don’t have a list of locations that will receive product from this kitchen/bakery/manufacturing center,” she said.
No contractor is listed for the $1.5 million project to renovate 15,305 square feet of space for the project, along with 364 square feet of unenclosed space.
Plans show production and staging lines with freezer and storage spaces.
Parker Walter Group Inc. of Sarasota is the architect.
The kitchen is next to Village Bread Cafe.
The city is reviewing a permit application to demolish the closed Krispy Kreme at 3814 University Blvd. W. at a cost of $50,000.
The 2,700-square-foot Krispy Kreme was built in 2014 and closed in 2016. Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A wants to build a 128-seat, almost 5,000-square-foot restaurant on the 1.31-acre site.
