Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the city’s annual Veterans Day Parade presented by the Law Offices of Ron Sholes will begin at 11:01 a.m. Nov. 11 on Water Street in front of the Lofts at Jefferson Station.
“As a law firm of military veterans, we take tremendous pride in the Veterans Day Parade. We hope you and your family will join us Wednesday, Nov. 11, for the parade to celebrate and honor our Veterans,” Sholes said in a news release.
There’s a new route this year for the parade. It will begin on Water Street, then proceed east and turn onto Laura Street, turn west down Adams Street and continue until the end of the parade at Lee Street.
Viewing sites include along Water Street, Laura Street and Adams Street and near the Duval County Courthouse and Northbank Lawn, former site of The Jacksonville Landing.
The parade also may be watched live on WJXT TV-4, a Daily Record news partner.
Mayor Lenny Curry; Sheriff Mike Williams; U.S. Army veteran, Major General Maury Edmonds, as the parade Grand Marshal; and two of Jacksonville’s oldest veterans, Sollie Mitchell of the U.S. Army at age 102 and John Connelly of the U.S. Army Air Corps at age 95, will participate.
The parade also will include senior military officials, active-duty and retired military units, veteran groups, high school groups and military-themed floats.
Parade spectators are encouraged to safely gather Downtown and wear red, white and blue while maintaining social distancing.
