The Jacksonville Bar Association is preparing for its annual Holiday Project to benefit older adults in Duval County.
The association is committed to assisting at least 300 gift recipients who are involved in the Meals on Wheels program administered by the nonprofit Aging True Community Senior Services.
Program participants submit a “wish list” of items they’d like to receive, such as blankets, clothing and small appliances.
The JBA is seeking attorneys and law firms that will purchase, wrap and deliver gifts to recipients.
Wrapped gifts also may be dropped off at the JBA office at Wells Fargo Center from Dec. 7 until 4 p.m. Dec. 14.
Traditionally, attorneys and judges who deliver gifts personally also spend time with the recipients, many of whom are shut-ins. Gifts that are brought to the JBA office are taken to the older adults by members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Attorney Chandler Jolly, Holiday Project Committee co-chair, said the group is discussing the logistics of personal delivery to older people, a high-risk group for coronavirus, while following COVID-19 safety precautions.
“We may have to leave the gifts on the doorstep this year,” she said.
