The Jacksonville Aviation Authority board voted 6-0 Nov. 30 to approve a $12 million hangar and office facility at Cecil Airport to support ManTech Advanced Systems International Inc.’s U.S. Navy contract.

According to a news release, JAA intends to complete construction of the 39,000-square-foot hangar by the first quarter of 2022.

ManTech will lease the hangar for about $4.9 million over five years, JAA said in the release.

The Fairfax, Virginia-based government defense and advanced technological services contractor works with the U.S. Navy Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Airport Program to support and maintain P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

The lease includes two options for five-year extensions.

JAA plans for the facility include 81,507 square-feet of aircraft ramp parking and vehicle parking.

“This lease with ManTech shows that Cecil Airport continues to be recognized as an ideal location for aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul operations,” JAA CEO Mark VanLoh said in a statement. “Moreover, we anticipate that this new hangar will begin to open up the northern section of Cecil Airport for additional development.”

Cecil Airport’s government contractors and military tenants also include LSI, the Boeing Co., Florida Army National Guard, Fleet Readiness Center Southeast, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The facility also is the first FAA-licensed horizontal launch commercial spaceport on the East Coast and the eighth to be licensed in the U.S., according to JAA.
