Junior Achievement of North Florida seeks volunteers from the business community to teach virtual classes to students in elementary, middle and high schools.

“You can decide which school and grade you want to volunteer for and then we will get you the information you need to succeed,” said Teresa Smith, vice president of programs for JA of North Florida, in a news release.

Volunteers can visit engage.ja.org to see a list of classes available and sign up for the desired class and time.

Junior Achievement will provide virtual training on the curriculum and best practices for online classroom teaching and volunteers can choose from the available classes and times.

There is a need for volunteers for programs including It’s My Business, It’s My Future, Economics for Success, Our Community, Our Nation, Personal Finance and the Career Speaker Series.

Volunteers also may specify their preference by grade level, program and delivery time through the advanced search option.

Punica Bhardwaj, an employee at Ernst & Young, is a volunteer with JA of North Florida.

“My experience has been great. I have really enjoyed all the conversations I have had with the students, as well as all the questions they have asked, and all their ideas about their future,” said Bhardwaj said in the release.

“Virtual volunteering turned out to be a blessing in disguise, since without the commute, we were able to get into more classes and have more conversations with the students than in the class since sometimes students prefer to use the chat feature instead of talking,” Bhardwaj said.

For more information about the programs and volunteer opportunities, email Smith at [email protected] or call (904) 398-9944, ext. 227.
