Atlantic North’s next project appears to be Whataburger.
The Texas-based restaurant chain is working on plans for a 3,745-square-foot building with a drive-thru on 1.25 acres.
The shopping center is at northwest Atlantic and Kernan boulevards.
The 68-seat restaurant is designed on outparcel A at Marketplace Drive and Atlantic Boulevard, near Belk. That is across Marketplace from the RaceTrac gas station and convenience store under construction.
Halff Associates Inc. is the civil engineer. Sleiman Enterprises owns the shopping center.
Whataburger has six locations in Jacksonville, Neptune Beach, Orange Park and Yulee.
The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing a permit modification for the restaurant.
Atlantic North, at 11901 Atlantic Blvd., is anchored by Belk, Academy Sports + Outdoors and LA Fitness. Earth Fare closed.
Sleiman Enterprises previously filed plans to fill in the Atlantic North shopping center with more than 100,000 square feet of retail space.
Sleiman Enterprises wants to seven retail units in the main strip. It will fill the space between Belk and the closed Earth Fare store, which is adjacent to Academy Sports + Outdoors, with two stores.
It proposes five new shops between Academy and LA Fitness.
No tenants were identified.
Atlantic North also has outparcels and more expansion in progress.
Developed outparcels include 7-Eleven, MedExpress Urgent Care, Panda Express and two multitenant buildings that include Venetian Nail Spa, Great Clips, Verizon Wireless and a planned Fancy Sushi.
Another Broken Egg Cafe is joining the multitenant building with Fancy Sushi and Verizon.
The Baker’s Son by Valerio’s, a Filipino bakeshop, intends to open by Thanksgiving in the building with Great Clips and Venetian Nail Spa.
Scrubbles Express Wash is planned on a corner outparcel.
Three more outparcels are available on the property with two previously identified in public records as Whataburger and Starbucks coffee shop.
Marketplace Drive runs from Atlantic Boulevard next to Belk. West of that are RaceTrac and a proposed Cinemark theater.
Two more outparcels are available there.
