After interviewing 12 applicants on Oct 22 for the seat being vacated Jan. 1 by Circuit Judge David Gooding, the 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis the names of six candidates for the position.
The nominee pool comprises two law firm owners, a partner in a law firm, an assistant state attorney in the 4th Circuit, the 4th Circuit general counsel who also serves as a hearing officer, and an assistant public defender in the 4th Circuit.
The nominees:
• Jeb Branham, owner of Jeb T. Branham P.A., is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law. He was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2000.
• Corrine Bylund is owner of Bylund Law PLLC in Jacksonville Beach. She was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2005 after graduating from Florida Coastal School of Law.
• James Kallaher, a partner at Kallaher, DeLuca & Naughton in Orange Park, graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law. He was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2001.
• Dan Skinner, assistant state attorney in the 4th Circuit, graduated from Regent University School of Law. He was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1997.
• Julie Taylor is general counsel and a civil traffic infraction hearing officer in the 4th Circuit. She graduated from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1996.
• Susan Zerbe is an assistant public defender in the 4th Circuit. She graduated from Florida State University College of Law and was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2006.
The nominees will be interviewed in Tallahassee by the governor’s staff. DeSantis has 60 days to appoint Gooding’s successor or he may request additional nominees from the commission.
