The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing a permit application for an Amazon.com last-mile distribution facility in St. Johns County.
The proposed 125,000-square-foot facility is planned at 3960 Inman Road in St. Augustine by developer Ryan Companies US Inc., based in Minneapolis with a Tampa office.
Connelly & Wicker Inc. in Jacksonville is the civil engineer. Ecotech Consultants Inc. of Vero Beach is the environmental consultant.
The center is planned on 58.75 acres at northeast Interstate 95 and Florida 16 near St. Augustine Outlets.
Jacksonville-based Fountains of St Augustine LLC owns the undeveloped property, which includes wetlands that will be preserved.
The application for the last-mile distribution facility is labeled on plans as DJX6, which matches the code references used by Amazon.com for its centers.
The Seattle-based online retailer is up to eight Northeast Florida projects in three years, boosting its opened or planned area presence to more than 4 million square feet of space and more than 5,000 employees.
On Sept. 2, Amazon announced that it will open a 500-job Jacksonville fulfillment center in fall 2021 at 10501 Cold Storage Road in Imeson Park in North Jacksonville. The more than 1 million-square-foot center will pick, pack and ship small items, including apparel, accessories and footwear.
Amazon’s first fulfillment center, to handle small items, books and electronics, opened in September 2017 in Northwest Jacksonville. The second, for larger goods, opened the following month in AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center in West Jacksonville.
Amazon opened a sortation center in Westside Industrial Park and its first last-mile delivery station in North Jacksonville. It also launched a fulfillment center in West Jacksonville for heavy bulk items.
More last-mile delivery stations are on the way to the St. Augustine site and to a former Kmart on Blanding Boulevard in West Jacksonville.
