Axionlog, the Argentina-based global restaurant supplier, applied for a permit to build the foundation for its proposed $15 million North Jacksonville warehouse.
Plans show it will start with 37,763 square feet of freezer and dry storage space and that it is designed for expansion to almost 105,000 square feet.
The city issued a permit July 30 to clear 16.53 acres at 11370 New Berlin Road for Axionlog at a cost of $45,000.
The foundation permit in review carries a cost of $55,000 for the warehouse on 8.76 acres.
Plans, called the “2020 Distribution Center for Axionlog Cold Solutions,” show freezer, cooler and dry-storage space connected to cool-dock and dry-dock space and an office.
V. Paulius & Associates of Allendale, New Jersey, is the contractor.
JaxPort announced Feb. 25 that Axionlog chose it as the port of choice to ship its U.S. manufactured exports bound for Latin America.
It said Axionlog intends to open the warehouse by early 2021 and that the 38,000-square-foot facility is expected to expand to 100,000 square feet and create 60 jobs within five years.
Landowner Faye Road Associates LLC, associated with V. Paulius & Associates, is the landowner and applicant.
The city and JEA reviewed preliminary project requests in January.
The city Planning and Development Department approved the preliminary site development plan in April for a combination of structures equaling 40,000 square feet or more, subject to conditions.
The St. Johns River Water Management District issued a permit July 13.
JAX Chamber announced Dec. 10 that the logistics company would establish a consolidation/distribution facility in Duval County and start with 25 jobs.
Axionlog is a full-service logistics provider that consolidates and manages the transportation of restaurant supplies, including food, flatware, and paper and plastic products for some of the world’s largest fast-food chains, according to JaxPort.
JaxPort said in February Axionlog had recently broke ground on the facility near the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal. The distribution center will be used to consolidate, sort and store products to be exported through JaxPort.
JaxPort said Axionlog plans to start importing products for domestic distribution by 2022.
“Axionlog uses advanced technology, including live cargo tracking, to plan, implement and control the door-to-door logistics processes for more than 30 restaurants in eight countries including Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, and more,” JaxPort said.
Axionlog.com says it is a global supply chain manager with more than 30 food-market customers in seven countries in Latin America. It says it operates 11 distribution centers with more than 1,000 employees.
It lists McDonald’s, Quiznos, Subway and Dairy Queen among its customers.
